POH Youth

The Praktijkondersteuner Huisarts Jeugd (POH Jeugd) offers support to children and young people aged 0 to 18 and to their parents or carers. You can contact the POH Jeugd for help with psychological and socio-emotional problems or questions about upbringing and development. The POH Jeugd works closely with your GP and falls under his responsibility.

Talks with the POH Jeugd are free of charge for you. This help is covered by the basic health insurance and no excess applies.

What does an appointment with a POH Youth look like?

The meetings take place at the GP practice. During the first meeting, the POH Youth asks you and your child questions to properly identify what is going on and what support is needed. Together, we look at what best suits your child's situation.

Sometimes a short-term counselling programme by the POH Jeugd is sufficient. For young people from 12 years old, this may also involve using the online programme Minddistrict, which allows them to receive additional support via eHealth.

If it turns out that other help fits better, such as counselling by a youth doctor, school social work or youth assistance, the POH Jeugd will arrange a suitable referral together with the GP.
