If you go to a faraway country, you often need shots to protect yourself from diseases.

Which vaccinations you need depends on the country you are travelling to. Check in time what you need to arrange to prepare properly for your trip.

Why vaccinations when travelling?

Some countries have different diseases than the Netherlands. They can make you very sick. You can get a shot against some of these diseases. This is also called a vaccination. The shots reduce the chance of catching these diseases. And if you do get the diseases, you usually don't get seriously ill.

When are vaccinations needed?

If you are travelling to any of these places, you may need a vaccination or inoculation:

  • Africa
  • Asia
  • The Middle East
  • Central and South America
  • some countries in Europe

Whether you need a vaccination has to do with these things:

  • The country you are going to
  • which pricks you have received before

Check at least 3 months in advance if and which vaccinations you need. Sometimes you need to get the shot more than once. Or sometimes the jab only works after a while.

Do I need a vaccination?

For travel vaccinations, you can go to the GGD travel vaccinations. They give you personalised travel advice and stock all vaccines.
